NFPA ROPE RESCUE, TECHNICIAN [#U21-XXX]

Rope Rescue Technician adds to the Rope Rescue Operations skill set and gives the participant the knowledge and confidence to tackle the most technically demanding rescues. Technician Certification is a four-day program. This program provides individuals training in accordance with NFPA 1006 2021 Rope Rescue Technician Level, as well as NFPA 1670 2017 Rope Rescue Technician Level for groups and teams. The prerequisite for participation in a Technician Certification program is either a Rope Rescue Operations Certification, or evidence of training and competency in the Performance Objectives required for Rope Rescue Operations.

At the end of this training, the successful student will be able to:

• Access a patient using techniques that require rescuers to climb up or down natural or manmade structures
• Perform a high-angle rope rescue of a person suspended from, or stranded on, a structure or landscape feature
• Understand and apply the principles of the physics involved in constructing rope rescue systems, including system safety factors, critical angles, and the causes and effects of force multipliers
• Perform a high-angle rope rescue with a litter using tender(s) to negotiate obstacles, manipulate or position the patient, or provide medical care while being raised and owered
• Move a patient packaged in a litter up and over an edge during a raising operation with a rope system
• Select, construct, and use a high-line rope system to move a rescuer and a patient along a horizontal path above an obstacle or projection

Skills taught include:

• Conduct suspended operations a rope rescue system in a high-angle environment, including managing the movement of the patient
• Direct a team in the removal of a victim suspended from rope or webbing in a high-angle environment
• Direct a team in the operation of a rope system to move a suspended rescue load along a horizontal path, including avoiding an obstacle
• Access a patient in a high-angle environment using techniques that require rescuers to climb up or down natural or manmade structures
• Isolate and manage potentially harmful energy sources found in erected structures
